How to behave in the house of God
Bible Doctrine Defended
1 Timothy 4:16
Bible Doctrines, where do we stand?
claiming to be Bible-believing, have pulpits that are world pleasing.
Wanting to gain new members, they are confused about how to do
They believe that they must appear like the world to attract
So they change their music to the world’s music
They change their dress style to the world’s dress style.
They change their standards to the world’s standards.
The result is that they have changed their church into a
“community social club.”
This is best seen in Matt 13:14-16; There are two groups:
them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall
hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not
For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and [their]
ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time
they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and should
understand with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. These are those who are lost.
But blessed [are] your eyes, for they see: and your
ears, for they hear. These are those who are

Believers, because of their illuminated mind,
Need to be fed God's Word.
Need sound doctrine.
In First Timothy Paul is emphasizing sound doctrine.
Sound doctrine makes strong pulpits,
Strong pulpits make spiritual saints.
Weak churches are usually weak doctrinally.
I Timothy 1:3 As I besought thee to abide still at
Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they
teach no other doctrine,
Paul tells Timothy to:
Be Particular about Doctrine - 1:3a
The Bible is a book of doctrine.
It covers God's story of creation, the fall, the plan of
blackemption, the crucifixion, the resurrection, the church and the
evangelization of the world.
This story is God's story.
It is true as it stands.
False doctrines are lies.
They are always there.
They only become trouble to the weak.
The weak are "tossed to and fro by every wind of
This is the problem with the new versions.
They change the Word of God.
They pick different words to translate God’s Word.
To get a copyright they have to change the KJV by 15%.
So they are compelled by financial interest to change many
words from their original.
But the different words are not better words; they do not
convey the same meaning.
They change the message of God’s Word.
Because of this, they publish many lies.
We must Protect against False Doctrine - 1:3b
There is grave danger to both those who teach false doctrine
and those who listen to them.
False teachers are in danger of stiff punishment.
The ones who follow them are in danger of missing heaven.
When a Sunday School teacher asked the son of a country doctor
what false doctrine was, he said, "False doctorin' is when someone real
sick is given the wrong medicine and he dies."
That is what a lot of ministers are doing today. They're false Doctorin'.
Northwest Baptist Church must teach “no other doctrine.”
We must determine what is taught by the Bible
We must teach this doctrine and no other.
I Timothy 4:6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of
these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in
the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
Paul reveals to us:
The Purpose of Sound Doctrine - 4:6
It is the BACKBONE of Christianity.
Timothy had attained to the level of a “good minister of Jesus

So, according to Judson, we must learn good doctrine,
Search our lives and apply the truth.
Then we will be able to live holy lives for the Lord Jesus
I Timothy 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to

Every pastor, every SS teacher, every soul winner, every
Christian mother, every believer must read and study the Bible.
The reading of God’s Word must become a daily habit.
It ought to be as vital to us as our meals.
We ought to feel weak and puny until we have had our feeding
on God’s Word.
I Timothy 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the
doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and
them that hear thee.
Salvation comes only by Sound Doctrine - 4:16
Try if you will to get someone
saved by telling them only that God loves them and wants to save them.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith
[it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that
he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
People need to hear the Gospel.
They need to hear the Story of Christ.
They need to hear sound doctrine.
Only then will they hunger and thirst after righteousness.
Only then can they appreciate what Christ has done for them on
I Timothy 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted
worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
Preachers are to labour in the word and in the doctrine - 5:17
Before I was saved the churches I visited were not true in
Some spoke of love, but never of hell.
Some gave book reviews, with
little mention of the Bible.
Some were emotional, promising the great blessings of
faith, but Peter under divine inspiration writes that, 2
Peter 2:17 These are wells without
water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is
reserved for ever.
Men thirsty for the living water come to hear the

But there is no water in many of the wells today.
Men see the clouds flying overhead in a great wind,
But the clouds dump no rain to satisfy the thirsty

Or his jokes, or his wit, or his program.

He came to church for his family.
I was fresh out of Bible College,

I so urged upon the people the

Perhaps someone has heard God’s call on their life to be a
