Jeremiah 7:17 Seest thou not what they do in the cities of
Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Jeremiah 7:18 The children gather wood, and the fathers
kindle the fire, and the women knead [their] dough, to make cakes to the queen
of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may
provoke me to anger.
Jeremiah 7:19 Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD:
[do they] not [provoke] themselves to the confusion of their own faces?
Many in this
day have no hope, no peace, little understanding, and only worldly wisdom.
They seek things early in life
that backfire on them, as they grow older.
drinking, doing drugs, premarital sex, all terribly self-defeating.
some things are not as obvious: disrespect, false values, slothfulness, pride.
too will take a terrible toll on them, as they grow older.
People are selfish and worldly in
I find it
difficult to watch any television these days.
The live courtroom dramas are so confusing.
The studio audience shows are confusing.
The soap operas are confusing.
Confusion reigns in the public arena.
Yet, they say,
that these are the shows with the highest ratings.
“They provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces”
the product of this age.
But the same
problem was there in Bible times.
Sin brings confusion.
Daniel 9:7 O Lord, righteousness [belongeth] unto thee, but unto us
confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants
of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, [that are] near, and [that are] far off,
through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their
trespass that they have trespassed against thee.
Daniel 9:8 O Lord,
to us [belongeth] confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our
fathers, because we have sinned against thee.
Israel had long lived as if God didn’t exist.
woke up each morning and thought only of themselves.
Why do people live so selfishly?
It is built into

Confusion destroys lives.
James 3:16 For where envying and strife [is], there [is] confusion and every
Confusion – Disorganization; to
destroy the organization, systematic arrangement, or unity of.
In the civil war units in the
battle were consideblack “disorganized” when they were unable to put up a united
front against the enemy.

But why do Christians live sinfully and allow
confusion to reign in their lives?
Christian lives lived with sin
cause the Christian to become confused like the world.
Trusting in God is the only answer.
Psalms 71:1 ¶ In thee, O LORD, do I
put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.
Trust – (def.)
a firm reliance upon the integrity, ability and character of a person or thing.
We are to trust
in the Lord.
In a fighting
unit there needs to be a trust developed of the leadership.
Christian life their needs to be a trust developed for the guidance of God.
That guidance comes from the Church, the Word
and the Holy Spirit.
The congregation is to be guiding
Christians. Heb. 10:25
The leadership is to be guiding
Christians. Eph. 4:11-13
There needs to be a trust in the
Word of God. 1 Thes. 2:13
There needs to be time given to the
reading. 2 Tim. 2:15
The Holy Spirit
There needs to be a yielding to the
Spirit. Rom 8:1
There needs to be a desire for the
filling of the Spirit. Eph. 5:18
God brings peace, not confusion.
14:33 For God is not [the author] of
confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
