This Is the Day – Daily Devotional

    This Is the Day

    Scripture:

Psalm 118:24 — “This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

    Devotional:

    Sunday arrives like a gift.

After six days of work, worry, and weariness, God gives us this: a day set apart. A day to pause. A day to gather with His people and remember what matters most.

The psalmist’s words weren’t written for a perfect day. Psalm 118 was composed in the context of struggle and deliverance. The writer had faced enemies, experienced near-defeat, and cried out for help. Yet in the midst of it all, he declared: “This is the day that the LORD has made.”

Not “this is the day when everything went right.” Not “this is the day when all my problems disappeared.” Simply: this is the day the LORD has made. Therefore, rejoice.

That’s the choice before you this Sunday morning. You can focus on what’s wrong — the bills, the tensions, the uncertainties that will still be waiting tomorrow. Or you can lift your eyes and recognise that God has given you another day of breath, another opportunity for worship, another chance to experience His presence.

Rejoicing isn’t about pretending problems don’t exist. Rather, it’s about choosing perspective. The God who made this day is the same God who holds your future. The Lord who brought you to this Sunday morning is the same Lord who will walk with you through whatever Monday brings.

So today, whether you gather with a congregation or worship quietly at home, make a deliberate choice. Receive this day as a gift from your Father’s hand. Let gratitude rise before complaints. Let praise push back anxiety.

This is the day. He made it for you. Rejoice.

    Reflection:

What would change if you approached every Sunday — and every day — as a deliberate gift from God rather than just another date on the calendar?

    Prayer:

Father, thank You for this day. You made it. You gave it. You are present in it.

Help me to receive today as a gift rather than an obligation. When worries crowd in, remind me that You hold all things together. When weariness weighs heavy, refresh me with Your presence.

I choose to rejoice — not because everything is perfect, but because You are good. May my worship today honour You and strengthen my soul for the week ahead.

    In Jesus’ name, Amen.
